The Certified Nurse Midwife- is academically and clinically prepared to provide primary health care services within the scope of advanced nursing practice.  The Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care in collaboration with members of the health care team, according to established ACCESS protocols.

Characteristic duties and responsibilities:   

·              Performs the following per ACCESS protocols:   histories and physicals on new and return patients, orders appropriate, cost-effective diagnostic and screening studies per ACCESS, makes presumptive diagnosis and implements therapeutic plan, refers to specialty physicians and primary care physicians as indicated, refers to community resources as indicated, provides patient education in disease prevention and wellness promotion, and assures clients’ medical record meets documentation standards.
·              Works with core health team and case management staff to provide for coordinated delivery of case management services.
·              Precepts health science students and participates in faculty and university affiliated activities as indicated.
·              Initiates and/or participates in ongoing research at ACCESS.
·              Participates/leads appropriate interdisciplinary teams.
·              Participates in the development and review of ACCESS policy and procedure development as appropriate.
·              Participates in peer review and performance appraisal.
·              Meets scheduled health center times and productivity standards.
·              Meets all requirements necessary to maintain: a valid license including re-certification, and required CEU.
·             ParticipatesinACCESSstaffmeetings,QualityAssuranceandothercommittees, and community   education programs.
·              Participates in orientation of new staff.
·              Provision of administrative assistance to supervisors.

Performs procedures such as colposcopy, IUD insertion/removal, suture removal, wound care, cryotherapy, and others with appropriate training and within the scope of the Nurse Practitioner role after obtaining the appropriate privileging and credentialing in ACCESS.

Minimum Requirements

Current licensure in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse

Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN), Basic rescuer CPR certification, and Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization within one (1) year of commencing employment as a Nurse Practitioner at ACCESS or from the date of graduation from the MSN program whichever is the later.     

Excellent clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal  skills, and demonstrates team-oriented approach to health care delivery.
