Working both within community settings beyond the health center walls as well as within over 40 health center locations across the greater Chicago area, ACCESS physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives and other providers work hand in hand with outreach staff, case managers, social workers and substance abuse counselors to offer integrated preventive care, chronic disease management, behavioral health and support services. ACCESS has close to 300 medical providers and 600,000 patient visits annually and we deliver over 3200 babies annually.
The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic provides carpentry and general maintenance for all Access facilities, repairs equipment, moves furniture and performs other related duties. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.
Essential Job Functions/Duties:
Ability to perform carpentry functions successfully such as; operation of power tools, drill, and sander. Repair and install facility items such as; flooring, ceiling tiles, doors, wall patching, door trimming/molding, partitions. Install shelving, cabinetry, and doors.
Responsible for performing several maintenance duties related to plumbing, HVAC and carpentry. Works with outside contractors to ensure they have the necessary support to perform high quality and safe services to ACCESS. Inspects fire extinguishers monthly and performs weekly safety inspections for fire, life safety, and occupant comfort. Enters and completes work assignments via computerized work order management system. Change filters and belts and performs minor HVAC related repairs. Assembles furniture, equipment, and performs basic lock services.
Responds to emergencies and ensures fire & life safety, performs minor floor tile and carpet installation and repairs, perform all preventative maintenance on time. Complete corrective work orders within department standards and set deadlines
Provides set-up for special events and transport, moves, and removes boxes furniture. Performs light grounds keeping and snow removal for selected sites.
Responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance logs and documentation for safety inspections and surveys. Resolution for emergencies, serves as member of the Incident Command Team. Completes all required emergency management training. Conducts required fire drills and provides fire safety training.
Responsible for safe and orderly maintenance of department inventory, tools, and supplies in the assigned trucks and at the network warehouse.
Must possess excellent problem solving and diagnostic skills
Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment in accordance with Access and Federal/State/Local rules and regulations
Ability to use hand tools and trade tools
Excellent customer service skills; ability to interact in a diverse and multi-cultural environment
Ability to work in both a team-setting and without direct supervision
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
3-5 years’ experience related to carpentry preferred
2-5 years’ experience in maintenance role; candidates with experience in a healthcare work setting preferred
Must have a valid driver’s license with good-standing driving record
Basic working knowledge of mechanics, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, OSHA regulations, and building codes
Stationary Engineers License or related certification preferred (i.e. carpentry, HVAC, electrical, locksmith, and refrigeration)
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Must be able to work between 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. some holidays, weekends, and availability during off-hour emergencies
Ability to perform the following for extended periods of time: standing, walking, lifting, etc
Ability to climb ladders and dead lift a minimum of 100 lbs
Ability to work in temperatures between 32°F and 90°F
Candidates must have own hand tools
